General Safety
- ✓Stay on marked trails. The terrain is steep and the rock is exposed — going off-trail can be dangerous.
- ✓Tell someone your plans. Cell service is unreliable, so let a friend or your lodging host know where you're headed.
- ✓Watch the weather. Thunderstorms can develop quickly in the mountains. If you hear thunder, descend immediately.
- ✓Bring more water than you think you'll need. There are no water sources on the trail.
- ✓The observation platform has exposed edges. Supervise children at all times.
- ✓Wear appropriate footwear. Sandals and flip-flops are not suitable for the trail.
Climbing Safety
- ✓Seneca Rocks is a serious climbing area. Routes involve real risk — assess your abilities honestly.
- ✓Wear a helmet. Rockfall is a real hazard, especially on busy weekends.
- ✓If you're new to outdoor climbing, hire a local guide service for your first visit.
- ✓Check your anchor setups carefully. Some older fixed gear may be suspect.
- ✓Respect the rock — don't chip, drill, or alter the natural surface.
